Do not trust an old drop percentage blindly
The official wiki currently says Forest Keys had a 20% drop chance from Forest enemies and could also drop from Forest Spirit — but its history shows that rate changed repeatedly during the Demo. Current Early Access footage and discussion also show players being confused about where keys come from.
Because 0.15.1 just touched Forest Key multiplayer behavior, this guide deliberately does not present the old 20% number as a confirmed current drop rate. That is a research gap to re-test after the next patch or with controlled current-build footage.
What is safe to rely on
- Locked doors tell you which key they require.
- Forest Keys are the relevant key type for Forest Dungeon locks.
- Current gameplay shows Forest Dungeon progression leading to the Forest Pickaxe, which is part of the next progression step.
- Old cheese/exploit routes should not be assumed to work; dungeon bricks and progression locks have changed across versions.
If your key does not work in co-op
Update to at least 0.15.1. The first EA patch explicitly fixed Forest Keys not working properly in multiplayer. If everyone is current and the key still fails, treat it as a live bug and check the newest patch notes before rebuilding the world.
